I've owned SprucePine.com for many years now, and it has had many incarnations. The driver behind the site has always remained the same though: build an online community for the town of Spruce Pine, where people can meet, chat, and voice their opinions. The site has had varying success, but some good debates have arisen throughout the years (the alcohol debate was a good one, and also the "2% raise" threads).
On the technical side, the site runs a combination of PHP and uses Joomla . Previous versions of the site were written entirely in Perl (e.g. the business directory for those of you who remember). There are various other components running as well: phpBB2, Wordpress, Uebimail, and other fine open source programs.
