In Spruce Pine candidates have filed for Mayor and 2 council seats: Incumbent Mayor Wes Foy will not run for another term and the only candidate to file for mayor is Ralph Edward Hise Jr. For Council, four candidates are running for 2 seats. The candidates are incumbents Rocky Buchanan & Phillip Hise, and John Pendley Jr. and Tommy K Westall. Winners of both elections will serve 2-years.

Voter registration deadline is October 12th and the election is November 6th.

I hope people get involved in this upcoming election. After the horrifying events of this past weekend strong leadership will be crucial both in the coming months and on into the future. Political squables will only prolong the agony of rebuilding Spruce Pine.

Asking questions of those running for office is a part of being an informed citizen. Ask about what's important to you. Inform yourself. The problems this country is having, from local level to national, are happening because we, the citizens, have shirked our responsibility. It's time to face up to our civic duty.

Get informed: Then VOTE.

It'll be good practice for next year...

I AGREE IT IS YIME FOR A CHANGE FOR SPRUCE PINE. WHEN I LIVED THERE AS A YOUNG PERSON WE HAD MORE TO DO IN THE 70'S THAN THE YOUNG KIDS DO NOW. THEY ARE THE FUTURE AND ITS SEEEMS THERE IS NOTHING FOR THEM TO DO THERE BUT GET INTO TROUBLE, FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IN THE NEWS. I AGREE IT NEEDS TO BE A WET COUNTY TO BRING IN MORE BUSINESS AND KILL OUT THE BOOTLEGGERS. THE PEOPLE WANT SOMETHING TO DRINK THEY GO GET IT IN ANOTHER COUNTY OR BOOTLEGGERS. YOU WOULD PROBABLY HAVE LESS CRIME. I LOVE SPRUCE PINE AND HATE TO SEE IT GOING DOWN. I WOULD HAVE STAYED IF THERE HAD BEEN GOOD JOBS BUT AS I SEE IT, THERE NEED TO BE A CHANGE BECAUSE IT IS A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TOWN. WE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT DRUGS WERE BACK THEN. NOTHING STAYS THE SAME ANYWHERE BUT GO FORWARD INSTEAD BACKWARD. SO SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE FIRE. THE LAST THING YOU NEEDED

these firefighters are the ones that saved spruce pine.
